History Comes Alive with the 1969 Draft Lottery

Pat Black-Gould

I was surprised to find this video today and I wanted to share it It covers information from my book, All the Broken Angels, co-written with Steve Hardiman. The novel takes place during the Vietnam War era. This section discusses the draft lottery process, an important part of my book. Those who were around then can vividly remember sitting in front of their television sets on the evening of December 1, 1969. Younger readers tell me they had no idea that this draft lottery happened.

When I wrote the book and do presentations, it was important to place people in front of the television set on that December evening and have them imagine what it was like to know that at any moment, for young men, your birthdate could be called, and it could change your life and your loved ones lives forever. Watch this video and see what it was like,

Writing All the Broken Angels allowed me to bring an essential part of history to life and honor all those who served and their families.
