Do We Learn From History?

This video shows two cousins and best friends, Cate and Albie. They did everything together until the Vietnam War divided them.

The novel takes place in the 1960s and early 1970s, a time when the war divided not only nations but also families.

As Cate, the main character in the novel, says, "I no longer belong in his world, and he no longer belongs in mine."

When writing this novel, I thought about that time in our history and the deep division in our country. Somehow, we managed to get through that time. We may have had different opinions from each other, but we were at a place where we could respect each other's opinions.

And now, here we are today. We can't talk to each other. We're a nation divided again. Will we allow ourselves to learn from history? I want to believe we can, but I'm not sure.

What do you think?
